During a recent familiarization visit, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peters Nwagor, declared a comprehensive plan to upgrade the Rivers State College of Health Science and Management Technology.
The visit, which served as Dr. Nwagor’s first official assessment of the institution since assuming office, provided an opportunity to engage directly with the college’s management, staff, and students. Addressing the college community, the Commissioner emphasized that the current administration of Rivers State is deeply invested in sustainable human capital development, with health education serving as a cornerstone of this vision.
Dr. Nwagor outlined several key areas of immediate intervention, including academic delivery, administrative efficiency, student discipline, infrastructure, campus sanitation, and general student welfare. He stressed that a conducive, safe, and modern learning environment is non-negotiable for producing highly skilled healthcare and management professionals who can compete globally.
“We are committed to ensuring that this college maintains high standards in all aspects of its operations,” Dr. Nwagor stated during his address. “From the quality of academic instruction in the classroom to the state of laboratory equipment, and down to student accommodation and basic sanitation, everything must align with modern educational benchmarks. Our healthcare system relies heavily on the graduates of this institution, and we cannot afford to compromise on quality.”
During his comprehensive tour of the campus, the Commissioner inspected lecture halls, laboratories, hostels, and other vital facilities. While acknowledging the existing challenges faced by the institution, he assured the management that the state government would intervene promptly to address infrastructural deficits, improve sanitary conditions, and upgrade learning facilities.
The management of the College, alongside student representatives, expressed deep appreciation for the Commissioner’s timely visit. They noted that his hands-on approach and direct engagement signal a new era of progress and administrative support for the institution. Students also expressed optimism, noting that immediate improvements in welfare and infrastructure would significantly boost academic morale.
