Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, has commended voters across the state for the peaceful conduct of the ongoing governorship election, urging them to remain calm and allow the electorate’s choice to prevail.

Oyetola made the call in a post on his X account on Saturday after casting his ballot alongside his wife, Kafayat, at Ward 1, Unit 10, Iragbiji, Osun State.

The former Osun governor said he was encouraged by the turnout of voters and the orderly conduct witnessed at polling locations across the state.

“I have cast my ballot with my wife, Kafayat, at Ward 1, Unit 10, Iragbiji, in the ongoing Osun governorship election,” Oyetola said.

He added, “I commend the impressive voter turnout and the peaceful conduct of voters across the state. I urge everyone to remain peaceful and allow the will of the people to prevail.”

Oyetola also praised security personnel deployed for the election, commending them for what he described as professionalism and commitment to maintaining peace throughout the exercise.

His appeal for calm comes against the backdrop of concerns raised by Governor Ademola Adeleke over reported delays involving the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System in some polling units and allegations of disruptions in parts of the state.

Adeleke had called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to address reported technical difficulties with the accreditation process and had also alleged interference by political thugs in some areas.

Despite the concerns, Oyetola’s message focused on the need for voters to maintain peace and respect the outcome of the electoral process as voting continues across Osun State.
