As the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) continues to battle internal instability and waves of defections, former Anambra State PDP Chairman, Dan Ulasi, has called on the party to form a strategic alliance with Labour Party’s Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE NEWS on Friday, Ulasi emphasized the need for the PDP to look beyond internal rivalries and focus on national interest by engaging credible and visionary leaders like Obi.
“Peter Obi is a factor of progress. He’s a success himself. In the last presidential election, he had over six million votes,” Ulasi noted. “So if there are no overambitious, inordinately ambitious people in PDP who don’t want to be overshadowed, then yes—Peter Obi is someone the party should openly approach.”
He described Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, as one of the few Nigerian politicians with integrity, honor, and a track record of performance, qualities which, he said, the PDP should prioritize if it truly seeks a better Nigeria.
Ulasi warned that internal resistance from power-hungry party members could sabotage any forward-thinking alliance. However, he stressed that if the PDP’s mission is to promote good governance, then collaborating with Obi is a logical and necessary step.
“We’re talking about leadership for a better government of Nigeria, not a better party for Nigeria. There are individuals with the characteristics we need—and Peter Obi is one of them,” Ulasi declared.
With over six million votes in the 2023 polls, Obi remains a formidable political force, Ulasi argued. He added that he maintains a strong personal relationship with the former Anambra governor and would be willing to facilitate discussions if the PDP chooses to reach out.
“If the party does decide to approach him and solicit my advice, I have enough contact and relationship with Peter Obi that I will convince him about the future—and why it is necessary for all of us to come together to stop the menace going on in Abuja presently.”
