There was jubilation in Amube Evuazu autonomous community in Obele Agu Umana, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, yesterday, as some less privileged, numbering over 500 benefited from a free medical care and food support by Adani Care Foundation.
Bags of rice and other food items were distributed to the rural dwellers, while the sick among them were treated. Drugs and other medical supplies were administered free of charge to the patients.
In her speech, the founder, Josephine Nneka, who was represented by the Operations Manager of the foundation, Gladys Eze, reaffirmed her commitment to serving underprivileged communities.
She said: “Our mission is to ensure that you have access to the essential services you need, medical care, food, clean water and opportunities for a brighter future.
“We’ve provided over 430 screenings and critical medication to individuals in need, served 1,300 hot meals, distributed 100 bags of 50kg rice, and awarded nursing scholarships.”
On his part, the chairman of the occasion, Chief Emmanuel Aneke, commended the foundation for a timely intervention, adding that the relief material came at a time when people were dying of hunger.
“There is hunger in the country—excruciating hunger. Insecurity is at its peak. Farmers cannot go to their farms. Prices of foodstuffs have skyrocketed. People are dying due to lack of medical care. Adani Care Foundation, as always, came at the right time to give us succour and hope to our people,” he said.
The event also included youth skill acquisition sessions, health seminars, with more than enough food and drinks for all attendees.
One of the beneficiaries, Cecilia Ugwu, an ulcer patient, thanked the foundation for the free tests and drugs she received.
“I am so happy. If you are asked to come and receive free medical care and you get there and they do as they said, you have no choice but to be happy. God will bless them.
“I also benefited from the rice distribution. I thank God who made our children have this kind of thought to help us. It will continue to be well with them,” she said.
