Party chairmen of the Nigerian opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West region of the country have frowned at some alleged moves by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
The chairmen call on the National Working Committee, NWC of the party to step in and address the governor, noting that his plots could cause turbulence in the party in the nearest future.
According to them in a letter which copy was made available to newsmen, the governor’s secret plan to replace its national chairman could set the party apart, as other party members are in total disagreement with the move.
Our source understands that Makinde was accused of plotting to have the former governor of Ondo State during the military rule, Chief Bode George replace Uche Secondus who currently chairs the party in the national level.
The chairman, however, urged the NWC to call Makinde and others in support of the move to not to invite uncalled confusion in the zone.
The party chairmen comprising Deji Doherty (Lagos), Clement Faboyede (Ondo), Dr. Sikirulai Olawale Ogundele (Ogun) and Sunday Akanfe (Osun), also alleged in the letter that the Oyo governor is making moves to install current Caretaker Chairman of Ekiti State, Hosea Agboola as national vice chairman of the party.
They condemned the two moves by Makinde, urging all chieftains in the party to summon the governor, adding that the moves could be the beginning of terrible developments in the party if not addressed with immediate effect.
“We the undersigned are party chairmen in states of the South-West Zone and we feel duty-bound to alert you on the need to forestall the festering of any crisis in the South-West zone of the party,” the letter reads in parts.
“This action becomes necessary in view of the new schism rearing its head in our zone. It is our immediate concern to ensure that all hands are on deck to halt the growth of needless crisis that will negatively affect the health of our party in the South-West Zone.
