Generally, culture is the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society.
Overtime, we have adopted a set of behaviours and attitudes and accepted them as the norm. As we speak, the language and terminology of our political environment has become a reflection of our corruption, antithetical behaviour and lack of scruples.
The whole country including its professionals, leaders of thought and conscience accept it whole heartedly and have mainstreamed it into their everyday life and interaction.
Our political lexicon
1. Carry Along: Actually means, share the resources. Give us our share too or else we revolt.
2. Negotiate: Whats in it for us? A selfish way to pose your terms of settlement. Aim is placing yourself as an imposing factor worthy of recognition.
3. Pull out of negotiations: intransigence. A show of disatisfaction, upping the stakes. A very deft move used by elements to show disaffection while making known their ability to cause chaos.
4. Faction: Another way of creating schism by external or internal forces within a party calculated at furtherance of crisis or stalemate. A deft move by certain powers to attract attention, further crisis while naming their price.
5. Technicalities: A term used to achieve a predistinated goal by taking advantage of loopholes in the law. All targeted at stalemate. Aim is to subtly increase your political relevance in a negotiation and force your terms of settlement on combatants
6. Godfather: The unseen thief who must be served and catered for. A Proxy-Non elected person. He runs the show..The doer and the doee. You must give him the spare keys to the treasury…
7. Political career: A set of milestones a politician sets for himself to advance the food chain and create relevance in his waning days. He must constantly evaluate and change platforms and party to advance this. His career is dependent on how many people he touches, how many godfathers he has allegiance to and how much he can raise to keep greasing the political machinery.
8. Indirect primary: A way of getting your urchins legally to throw you up as the preffered candidate.
9. Direct primary: Fairly new terminology. A way of inciting a leaders opponents to collectively boot him out. Usually orchestrated by his godfathers who are angry with him. Very democratic way of coup plotting.
10. Not Flexible: Term used by disgruntled party members to describe their inability to get resources shared peacefully.
11.Defect: Shopping for platforms occasioned by a multiplicity of factors. Usually, push and pull factors
Common in an environment of No ideology or genuine political belief.
12. Powers that be: The puppet masters. Usually faceless. Nigerians accept them without asking questions. These are in the godfather category or higher. Essentially a group of thieves who set the rules and can change the rules midway.
13. Consensus candidate: The chap who satisfied all thieving forces.
14. Juicy post: A reward for extreme loyalty or A settlement for perceived ability to spoil the game.
15. Settlement: Pervades the polity. Used in local, political or cultural discourse. Made popular by IBB who superintended in the gradual dismantling of our innocence.
16. Political survival: An ability to hang in there by our politicians. Proverbial cat with 9 lives
17. Political structure: A set of systems created whose goal is to actualize power. These are foot soldiers organised to help political leadership actualization. They are part and parcel of the resource guzzling food chain. Professional politicians, loyalists, urchins thugs..
These are a willing tool in the actualization of whatever the godfathers and powers that be have decided. They are maintained by a complex stomach infrastructure system.
