The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated his position on the recent Federal High Court Judgement which nullified the recognition of the current governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Imo-West senatorial district in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during his ongoing media chat in Portharcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday, Wike dismissed his involvement in the court judgement, stating that those linking his name are only being mischievous

Though he admitted publicly disagreeing with the Governor of Imo, Hope Uzodinma, over his rainbow coalition initiative, he denied being in the know of ongoing internal political issues in the APC.

Further speaking on his rainbow coalition initiative, Wike posed a question to the Imo State Governor, asking, “What is Uzodimma afraid of?”

“I didn’t go to court; I’m not from APC. People are saying that because a day before that judgement he had openly warned his people there’s no Rainbow Coalition; if I see you I’ll collect the vehicle. So when the judgement came, they said it was me. How could it have been me?

What is Hope Uzodinma afraid of in the Rainbow Coalition?”

He said both priorities should be working to see the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, adding that if there is an initiative to achieve that, “What then is the issue?” he asked.

“Your business is to make sure Mr President wins elections. At the national assembly level, so many factors come in, including zoning. I owe no apologies that Rochas is my friend; after all, he has friends in Rivers State that are my political enemies; will I go and kill them? No!!”

“If he’s a strong man, he shouldn’t be afraid. You’re strong; whatever you see you take!”

Wike addressed the conflict of interest concerning the 2027 elections as well as Rotimi Amaechi’s Vice President candidacy.

“Why will Rivers people support a former governor who can’t explain his the issue of 14 billion earmarked for fumigating the state? Up till now I still have mosquito bites”

“You budgeted $39m to construct a general hospital and up till now we can’t find any hospital; how can I support such a person? He sold out gas turbine, so what’s the impact of his leadership on Rivers people?”

Wike said Amaechi’s candidacy was dead on arrival.

“It’ll be difficult no matter how you look at it.
“He contracted a Ghanaian to plant trees along Aba road for the sum of 8bn. My brother, it was terrible!! I don’t want to waste my energy. His candidacy is dead on arrival”

“We started this journey more than 2 years ago. Politics and elections are not a one-day thing. Before the primaries, we’ve met and taken decisions so everyone knows what they must do”

Addressing supporting candidates across two parties, the FCT Minister noted that his people have been sensitised on what to do and how to go about it.
“Leadership is about cascading impact down to your people. I conceded 13 seats to APC and 3 to PDP. Those 3, I know them.
“Why does he have to bring his wife into politics? Last time he brought in his mother. A man who does not respect his mother, now he has brought in his wife. A man who wants to be a vice president of Nigeria. I watched it on video, and I was so sad. An innocent woman”.
