Spotify, one of the world’s leading music and audio services, has announced an impending hike in its subscription packages.
The Verge, an international technology website, revealed Spotify’s price increase as it was announced on Monday.
“So that we can keep innovating, we are changing our Premium prices across a number of markets around the world,” The Verge quoted Spotify’s official statement on Monday. “These updates will help us continue to deliver value to fans and artists on our platform.”

This decision from Spotify will affect its hundred-million subscribers across 51 countries. Spotify has an estimated 515 million users and about 40 percent of that population are monthly subscribers.
It is the first time in 12 years Spotify has increased its subscription prices across board.
Users who have enjoyed audiobooks, podcasts and music have been curious about how the subscription hike would affect their location.
For instance, the price in the United States varies from the price in Nigeria at the foreign exchange value. The subscription will now cost $10.99 a month, instead of $9.99, for its premium subscription in the US. Duo subscription will increase from $12.99 to $14.99, family subscription will increase from $15.99 to $16.99, while student subscription will go up from $4.99 to $5.99.

The countries officially listed to be impacted by the new subscription package are Andorra, Albania, Argentina, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Peru, Portugal, San Marino, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Türkiye, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
By exempting Nigeria, these price hikes do not affect Nigerian subscribers. However, the respective price increase will take effect on users who travel and change their location settings on their Spotify account to one of the affected countries.
Spotify offers four paid monthly subscription services for its users in Nigeria: Premium Individual (N900), Premium Student (N450), Premium Duo (N1,200) and Premium Family (N1,400).
