Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has publicly dissociated himself from the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) decision to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, along with former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, former PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and eight other party members.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, Fintiri stressed that he played no role in the expulsions, describing the move as unhealthy for a party already grappling with internal divisions.
“I wish to categorically state that I dissociate myself from the position of expelling the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Gov. Wike, from the PDP,” Fintiri said. “I believe that this decision is not in the best interest of the party, and I will not be party to any attempt that could further plunge the PDP into unending crisis.”
As Chairman of the PDP 2025 Elective National Convention, Fintiri emphasised his commitment to peace, unity, and stability within the party, which has faced internal disputes and setbacks since the 2023 general elections.
“As a faithful party member, my position is clear: I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP, and I will not support anything that could lead to its disintegration. Peace and reconciliation are the only ways forward for our great party,” he added.
The governor urged party leaders and stakeholders to focus on healing divisions and rebuilding trust, calling for renewed dialogue and cooperation.
“I am committed to supporting efforts that promote peace, stability, and progress within the PDP,” Fintiri said. “My position is guided by the desire for peace and reconciliation, and I will continue to work towards achieving this goal.”
The expulsion of Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, and eight others was announced at the PDP national convention at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan, Oyo State. The motion, moved by PDP chieftain Bode George, cited anti-party activities and conduct inconsistent with the party’s collective interest. It was seconded by the Bauchi State PDP chairman, Bala Mohammed, and unanimously adopted.
The convention attracted notable PDP leaders, including Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), and Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), alongside the PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum; Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro; former governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun) and Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe); and Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara.
Fintiri’s statement signals a push for reconciliation within the party as it navigates tensions and competing agendas during its national convention.
