Nigeria suffered a 1-0 defeat to defending champions Senegal in their opening Group D fixture at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Christian Gomis scored the only goal of the game in the 75th minute, pouncing on a defensive lapse from the Super Eagles backline to hand Senegal all three points at the Amaan Stadium.
The Eagles struggled to create clear-cut chances throughout the contest and managed just one attempt on target across 90 minutes.
Earlier, the group’s first game between Congo and Sudan ended goalless — a result that leaves Nigeria bottom of Group D after Matchday 1.
Nigeria will return to action next Tuesday against Sudan, knowing that anything less than a win could complicate their chances of progression.
